As of late, I have been thinking about qualities I would like in a possible companion. Yes friends, despite my previous experiences, I’m told it is an appropriate time to get back on the proverbial horse. It seemed serendipitous that I found this little gem while perusing my Facebook newsfeed.
As I considered these rules, I found myself thinking that many of these are just wonderful rules for being a good person. Several rules on this list are ones that I feel ladies, as well as gentlemen should consider as they traverse through life.
I find myself hoping despite the cynicism and general malaise that I have been feeling due to my last experience, that there are individuals out there that follow rules like this. Of course, not all rules are made to be followed and I could live with people who, let’s say, choose not to drive stick shift, or opt to mix their drinks. But a man who reads and reflects is truly appealing. Or one that offers his hand. Or is gracious in manner, humble in tone and most definitely is thankful for what is given.
To an individual such as this, a lady might be inspired to do more than what is expected. And truly I know how to be a lady, when I am treated as such.
I do wonder though if these sort of rules are a thing of the past. These days, it is hard to find people who are willing to work hard for what they get, be it the big house or a car or a relationship. It seems that modern times have no place for ideals and actions like these. Maybe I am living in the past. A 12-year-old I was playing some Xbox Live game with pointed out to me when instead of a profane word, I shouted out in frustration the word “Fiddlesticks!”, that I might be a relic. A creature of days gone by.
Doomed to a life upon the shelf? Better that than to be handled by someone who is not a “gentleman”…
